Afropunk.com will premiere the new video from South African Music Award-winning recording artist Toya Delazy for the single Why Hate on http://www.afropunk.com
The video was co-directed by Toya Delazy and Lesedi Rudolf from Your Girlfriend Productions and Delazy Entertainment, and features fans (gathered after the artist’s call out on Facebook) and friends, from soccer player Portia Modise to comedian Donovan Goliath, singer Moonchild and actor Themba Ntuli.
Says Toya: “Why Hate is a song that I wrote against hate crimes last year, to protect my family, my friends, my fans and people that I love from being hurt because of who they are.
“I want to promote a foundation for the young people that will never allow them to have an experience like that again. Being black, fat, old, disabled, or even gay aren’t diseases…but homophobia, sexism or racism are.”
Speaking about involving her friends in a video shoot, Toya said: “It was my first time actually directing a video (with Lesedi), I had a lot of fun doing it, and it marks the beginning of some new projects (for me)…”
After walking away with three South African Music Awards in 2013 for her gold selling debut album Due Drop and a 2013 BET Nomination for Best International Act (Africa), Toya announced the release of her brand new album Ascension, which is available on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/za/album/ascension/id927490661
