August ends on a funny note with Durban’s “famous five” comedians in the mix for the Pagla Comedy Nite at Sibaya’s iZulu Theatre on August 28 and 29. Comedians on the bill include Mervyn Pillay, Rahul Brijnath, Arnott Payne,Vee Ganie and Anesh Dusrath.
The comedians will take the audience on an eye-opening journey of local culture, politics, sport and more.
Pillay is a comedy veteran with numerous shows under his belt including Back in Time, One Nite Stand, 150 years of Laughing, 3 Standing Up, Bollywood Comedy Night, Aunty Rumba and Friends, Braz Ouz in Concert and the hugely popular Bruin Ous and Chaars Ous.
He loves the comedy scene in Durban because he says it is diverse and not overdone. He is true to his roots as a thoroughbred Durbanite, like it or not.
Brijnath is an up-and-coming comedian who has quickly made inroads into the entertainment scene. He is also an accomplished stage actor, movie actor, sought after MC and model.
Payne is another multi-talented singer, musician, movie actor and stand-up comic. He speaks English, Zulu, Afrikaans, “Indian” and “Cape Coloured”, Durban and Joburg style, making him a 100% representative South African comedian. He will share funny talesabout his interaction with the different races.
Popular Hindvani radio jock, Dusrath hosts the Tamasha & Masti show which boasts a large listenership and a massive following. His live shows of the same name have seen sell out performances. He brings to the party his zany and wacky sense of humour that focuses on the daily happenings in the community, from the markets to the malls.
Anchoring the show as MC is Hindvani super DJ Vee Ganie, the other half of the successful Tamasha & Masti programme. He will bring his unique style of comedy to the show.
