SA “power-pop” stalwarts CrashCarBurn are back with a brand new single, Satellite!
Somewhat of a departure from what we’re accustomed to from the CrashCarBurn camp, the band has temporarily shelved their usual frenetic tempo and delivered a massively powerful ballad that celebrates the nostalgic excitement of being young and in young love!
“We tried something different on this one,” say frontman Garth Barnes. “We usually write lyrics from personal experience, but this time we decided to try a bit of an experiment. I had a chorus line which was about young love, but we needed the rest of the lyrics for the verses. We threw it out there to Facebook and asked fans what their favorite movie about young love was. The response was overwhelming and I spent an entire weekend watching the suggestions back to back. Eventually I found a story that I felt captured the spirit of the song perfectly and used that to base the lyrics on. Can you guess the movie?”
The single comes packaged with a fittingly spectacular video featuring pyrotechnics, explosions, slow motion and a ‘nearly impossible shot’ captured on the plains of the Kalahari desert! Drummer, Bugsy Barnes, conceptualized and directed the video, which shows the band dwarfed in silhouette against an enormous full moon!
“It’s a shot I had been researching for months,” says Bugsy, “There are only a handful of directors in the world that have actually pulled it off, and that was after multiple attempts! So the fact that we managed to nail it in a weekend whilst stranded out in the desert is something we’re pretty excited about!”
CrashCarBurn launch the video today at Rumors Lounge in Johannesburg where they will play the track live for the first time.
