Seven Deadly Sins for NAF fringe

Aaron McIlroy and Lisa Bobbert unveil their ‘wicked comedy’, Seven Deadly Sins, at The National Arts Festival next week.

In this, their latest stage duo comedy showcase, Aaron and Lisa take an irreverent and hilarious look at the seven deadly sins of Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy and Pride.

Seven Deadly Sins is a kaleidoscope of side-splitting scenarios set to have audiences clutching their abs and hanging onto their seats. Theatre-goers will be introduced to a host of totally off-the-wall, screwball characters who present a madly comic, alternative look at the vices and virtues of the notorious deadly sins.

Among the oddballs is Hubris Von Vaulter (McIlroy), the most vainglorious Viking designer you would ever hope to meet. There’s also a ditzy and rather gormless Irish couple who, with the help of alcohol and illiteracy, accidentally stumbled upon a ‘swingers’ club, thinking they were at a ‘singers’ club for an open mic party!

Then there’s the astonishing Toby, with Aaron dressed in a humongous fat suit, taking gluttony to a whole new level. Not forgetting the ultra bitchy gym bunnies who envy everyone and everything. And no McIlroy production would be complete without a welcome visit from one of Aaron’s favourite characters, Veejay Moodley, who is in top form as he explains the importance that wrath plays in our daily lives.

Written by Sue Monteregge and directed by Steven Stead with parodies of songs such as Britney Spears’s Work Bitch, Pitbull’s Timber and Mariah Carey’s Hero, Seven Deadly Sins offers wonderful, uninhibited and escapist fun from beginning to end.

Seven Deadly Sins can be seen on the National Arts Festival Fringe in Grahamstown from 2 to 6 July 2015, with daily performances at the Scout Hall. Early booking is advised. For bookings and performance times, visit www.nationalartsfestival.co.za
