Eric Abraham and the Fugard Theatre will be presenting the South African premiere of Joshua Harmon’s West End smash hit, Bad Jews, at The Fugard Studio Theatre from October 27 to November 21.
After the death of their grandfather, Poppy, a family heirloom propels cousins Daphna and Liam into a domestic battle of honour, faith and heritage.
Daphna, a devout, unbending “Real Jew” is at odds with her secular cousin Liam, an entitled young man detached from his cultural traditions. Caught in the middle are Jonah, Liam’s younger brother, and Liam’s non-Jewish girlfriend Melody, who just wants everyone to get along. When the group are forced to spend the night in close quarters, hilarity and mayhem ensues.
Directed by Greg Karvellas (Champ, The Frontiersmen) Bad Jews will run for a limited season at the Fugard Studio Theatre. Saul Radomsky designs both set and costume for this production.
Bookings are now open and advance booking is highly recommended. Tickets, ranging from R130 to R150, can be bought from www.computicket.com or the Fugard Theatre’s box office on 021 461 4554, (concessionary prices for all Friends of the Fugard, students, block bookings and pensioners).
Bad Jews premiered with a sensational season at The Roundabout Underground in New York in 2013 and has recently extended its highly acclaimed run at London’s Arts Theatre in the West End.
